I drive my children mad. Especially driving in Johannesburg. I cut through all the suburbs, to avoid traffic lights and congestion.
It's much quicker. Or do you take the normal route, to where you are going?

In the DFW area...I take only back roads as I detest sitting in traffic and not moving!

Now, when I am driving in unknown territory, I try to stay on the "beaten paths" as I do not want to arrive at an unplanned destination! lol

Sometimes we take the Interstate and other times we take the back roads or go through town. We cross the bridge over the Interstate, so we can see if there is traffic backed up before we have to get on. I get bored easily, so if I often use different routes. It depends on if I'm pressed for time or not.

When possible, I take the freeway, unless it's rush hour. I don't like sitting at lights. If I'm driving in the city I will also take the side roads to avoid lights and traffic. My husband thinks I'm crazy and hates to ride in the car with me.

Changes.....really the easiest....least amount of traffic. It could be 20 miles out of the way....but if I'm moving....I feel like I'm going somewhere....vs sitting in traffic. I used to drive 50 miles in the time it takes me to drive 5 here. I hate sitting. I have been know to ditch a cart in a store......drive 20 miles and shop and get home in less time than waiting at the first store.

It really depends on what time of the day it is. If I am out during the rush home from work time, I take all sorts of diversions to get there and avoid all the traffic

I'm the queen of shortcuts. I nip in here, there and everywhere.

It drives (LOL) my hubby nuts. He would rather just stick to all the main roads and go through all the traffic lights, reckons its safer to stay with directed traffic.

I'm too impatient, I hate traffic lights and congestion and would rather weave and duck thru the 'burbs' than stick to the main route.

Understood! I drive an old healthy old Volvo with no dents and no problems all through the shortcuts and NO highways. I am scared of the nuts in the NEWER cars who have no respect for life or limb. Or a neat old car. So there. I don't drive like the young, to just get there. I go in style and I go my way. Like you.

When in town I don't take any short cuts that do not have stop lights, to much traffic.

In the country I have a super shortcut to get to shopping its six miles long.

I tend to take the route of least stress...don't like interstates and beltways so at times my route is one which is a bit longer, but then I'm in no big hurry. [have always been like that]
