Toadstools - poisonous. Best to pluck them & toss in garbage just to make sure nothing eats them. Most animals stray away that stuff; few are dumb enough to try it anyway (like my loveable dummy dog). Rotting wood (old roots), 'dead yard' from pets or drying up area of a cow yard will show toadstools. This part of yard needs to be washed several times during the year (good garden hose spraying) to eliminate some of the saturation from the dogs. This part of the yard must be mostly shaded, too. Toadstools like damaged soil.

Some mushrooms that grow on lawns are edible and quite tasty. You could ask a friend who knows wild mushrooms or look them up in a guidebook. Others are poisonous and should be left alone. Either way they have their place in the ecosystem breaking down organic matter in the soil and making it available to your grass. This happens below the surface so picking them will not stop the process. If they are edible, I would eat them. If not they will be gone when you mow your lawn. I would not try to get rid of them with a fungicide, just let them do their thing.
I doubt they are from your dog droppings. Snowriver and Carole Q do not know wild mushrooms and are taking the cautious route. Even if they are poisonous to people they might be fine for other animals. I would leave them for the squirrels and other wildlife.
Don't eat any mushroom you can not positively identify.

Ignore the mushrooms. They won't do you or anyone any harm unless you eat them. When it dries up or when it gets cold enough they will simply go away. They are harmless. Have no idea what you call the "kill zone".

They are just mushrooms. Fungi will keep your lawn healthy.
