The last remnants of our reptillian past...the limbic system. Here resides our deepest emotions and instincts, including our irrational belief systems.
Nueroscientists can even artificially trigger the 'religious experience or presence' by probing certain areas of the limbic system.
The cerebral cortex is a more recent development of our species...say within the last 100,000 years. It is here where our logical and rational thought processes take place and where atheists have found their basis in reality.
Obsolete genes do not die overnight, therefore you'll be seeing a distorted worldview coming from the majority of earth's population for some time to come.

Very good question. I asked a similar question about why people don't examine what belief, itself, is.
I would speculate that it would be the creative side of the brain. The ability to conjure an idea, much the same as conjuring an idea for a play or a song. What exact portion, I do not know. But, without mind, there'd be nothing to conjure up the idea of a god existing.

scientists have found that a part of temporal lobe (roughly the region behind your ear) is responsible for religious experiences. temporal lobe epilepsy has been known to be associated with religious hallucinations (epilepsy is caused by excessive or synchronous neuronal activity in a given part of brain). some neuroscientists believe that the visions seen by famous religious leaders such as moses and st paul could be due to epilepsy, although of course, there is no way to know for sure. more recent leaders would be easier to investigate. i'm going to quote a paragraph from the article in the source:
'There are, though, more recent examples, like one of the founders of the Seventh Day Adventist Movement, Ellen White. Born in 1827, she suffered a brain injury aged 9 that totally changed her personality. She also began to have powerful religious visions.'
also, when the said part of temporal lobe is artificially stimulated by magnetic fields, 80% of normal people would sense a religious, mythical presence.
so. i hope that would help to confirm your atheistic belief?

on the top of the Bible, ti says that the lord will deliver Elijah the probhet and he shall turn the hearts of the fathers turn to the youngsters and the hearts of the youngsters turn to the fathers. that would sound like entire nonsense, even yet it rather is no longer. you have a sturdy component. a lot of human beings decide for to be with their spouses for all eternity. and that they are going to. the only faith that beleives it rather is the church of jesus christ of latter day saints. (aka mormons) interior the Doctrine and Covenants it says that each and every thing this is particular on the earth would be sure in heaven. meaning that as quickly as somebody is sealed interior the temple, the kin would be sealed for time and all eternity. The angel of Elijah the prophet got here to the the prophet joseph smith int he temple and now there could be eternal weddings. because of the fact of this i think of that our church is the only genuine church because of the fact as quickly as I get married and that i in my opinion love him, i visit decide for to be with him for all eternity. i wish i helped. LDS isn't that far-fetched as some beleive. in this regard, i think of it makes appropriate experience. do no longer subject approximately it. the Lord will paintings issues out in heaven. sturdy question, via the way. i normally do no longer even subject to getout my scriptures.
