Famously Diana, now Orlando Bloom crashes while being chased by these vultures. I say make it illegal to follow them once they get in the car, it's just not on!

I don't watch or buy any of that papparazzi fuelled tripe.
Shouldn't be too difficult to police - just make it illegal and it shouldn't be too hard for the police to notice 20+ motorbikes chasing a car through the city streets, a flash of the lights and a few driving bans later, hey presto.

There's nothing wrong with photographing celebs at galas and film openings etc, proper organised events where the press are invited and can get all the gossip they like, but to follow the Princes when they're just getting on with their lives is just not cricket. I don't care to see pictures of them sitting watching a football game, it's none of my business! Same goes for other celebs. The only thing the papparazzi contribute to a celeb's status is, shock horror, photos of them doing something slightly less than perfect. We should not be surprised and we should not care, so all of you lot out there just stop buying Heat will ya? Their blood is on your hands.

yes. while freedom of the press must be maintained. hounding and a rash of bad outcomes in recent years should be acted upon. the details of how to do it is probably very problematic. needs doing but i have no idea about the details.

With out the papparazzi there would be no celebrities. They would just be characters in a movie, nothing more; they would have no back stories to give them a human feel. They would just be people that play fictional characters. Without the papparazzi the entertainment industry would be nothing.
The papparazzi are a key factor in fueling the entertainment bussiness. 'A' list actors depend on popularity, just how a barber depends on shears. If they don't have it they don't get paid. And down rolls the ball from the top of the pyrimid effecting every aspect of the entertainment industry. Other industries aswell. How many companies can you think of that are endorsed by a celeb / person of fame? Hundreds, thousands even. The ball rolls further down hill, crippling industry after industry, untill it lands on your doorstep.
You see? Like it or not the papparazzi are an integral part of our society and culture. We would eventually revert to a primal state. For centuries humans have been being entertained in various forms by various people who were eventually popularized and achieved a form of "stardom". This fed the curiosity monster and from then on people like the modern day papparazzi have been getting the average person a deeper look into those they idolize. From then on the ball rolls up hill.
I believe there should be better regulated rules for the papparazzi to obide by to stop tragedies like those in the past. But if the papparazzi were made illegal all together, it could possibly dismantal society as we know it.

It's sick, but WE are the ones watching that crap.
Their job is to bring IT to "the people" and whatever the people want or see as news in our twisted society is what the paps go after. They will do their job as long as they get paid to, and they only get paid when we demand scandalous celebrity news.
Diana's accident was sad, and Bloom's incident was sick because of how the paps pretended to be the innocent by-standers and then they watched and snapped but didn't help. We're so bored with our own lives, we care about Britney's panties and ASK for frikking car crashes to get a precious picture. It's messed up.

Can't make it illegal some about Free Press.
There is a sure way to get rid of the papparazzi and that is you have to get rid of the demand.
As long as people buy the rags the papparazzi will be alive and well.

You can't outlaw a person taking a picture. And they are entitled to drive on the roads. It is indeed a problem, but the solution is people must stop buying the rags that print the pix. The photographers are amoral scumbags and will never stop voluntarily.

I think a huge step would be to require the papparazzi to acquire a press pass, just like the legitimate press.
