That isn't easy to suggest since I don't know what he likes or what his hobbies are! Nor, do I know how much you want to spend. However, when a friend of mine turned fifty a couple of years ago, a group of family and friends pitched in to get him a 3-day weekend at a Hotel-Casino in Atlantic City with gambling money. He loved it! Maybe you can send your friend away for a weekend to a favorite vacation spot - somewhere not too far away, but a chance for him to relax and enjoy himself.
