I would really like to find a sponsor for my 13 year old daughter. It wouldnt need to be alot just someone who can pay for gas and sessions. She was a competitive figure skater for 9 years. She is very good and is almost one of the best in the state. She loves what she does but without some kind of help we are gonna have to quit. She gets up every morning at 4 and skates 4-8 hours and figures a way to balance that with her homework.I would feel horrible if she ever had to quit permanently.and help or ideas?

I used to be a competitive figure skater myself. Never got to the point where I had to quit public school or find a sponsor, but used to get up at 4:45am and skate about 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. My coach was my main source of information with regards to what you are talking about. Why don't you talk with him/her? If what you say is true and your daughter is really that good, a sponsorship seems to be a natural next step and the coach would be the one who experienced it all before and would know the path to obtain a sponsor.

She skates 4 to 8 hours a day....when does she work or go to school? I guess its possible, but wow!!! I am impressed. Have you thought of maybe doing an expose' article in your local paper about her and have them publish photos etc. Really talk it up, you know like tell about when she got started, how many awards she has won, different competitions she has been in and raise the possibility of financing a way to the world Olympics. Give her dream a voice. People will read the newspaper article and want to help. Have a scholarship fund set up through a local bank where people can donate/contribute to her future. Its not an uncommon way of raising money. I wish her luck and you too. I hope this idea helps.

It's up to the parents to pay for their children's hobbies, be it sports, playing a musical instrument, entering beauty pageants, acting, etc. Lots of girls skate; few make the Olympics.

If there are "sponsorship" opportunities, I imagine you would find them at ice skating websites. But no one is going to do this out of the goodness of their heart. I imagine someone would only do this as an investment, if they thought she had so much potential, she would someday make millions in prize money and endorsements. In which case, you would probably have to sign something quite and be beholden to this person should she make it big. Better to cut down on other family expenses (vacations, cable TV, etc.) than be beholden in this way.
