Rice paddies are not dark, in fact, they spend most of the day in the hot, Vietnamese sun. For this reason, Bettas are best kept in temperatures around 80 degrees with sponge filters. (light does NOT affect their behavior any differently than other fish).

Bettas are good choices as they can TOLERATE small spaces (but should have larger spaces). I would suggest you get 2 2.5 gallon tanks, both with heaters to keep the temperature around 80*, and both with sponge filters to keep the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate down (fish bowls are terrible as they create fluctuating temperatures that will be dangerous variables). Keep one tank in a dark closet (only allowing light in for twice daily feedings), and the other in a well lit room. Do not use lamps close to the tanks as they will create a lot of heat, making another variable. Email me if you have any questions, or reach any stumbling points.

it would be less complicated so you might get a unmarried 10 gallon aquarium and divide it into 4 areas. this provides your 4-2.5 gallon aquariums. 2.5g is the smallest you opt to bypass with betta's. With each and all the kit, you may anticipate to pay around $30 whether it truly is used. attempt utilising web content like craiglist for sturdy deals.

bettas are especially affected by light since they are bred in rice flats were dirt and other debires gather and block the sun thus they have developed a geneal allergy from sun light. Sun light will cause eratic behavior and other complications to occur untill the fish dies. I know this sounds very odd but if you and your whoe family stood in a pitch black room all your life don't you think that if you went out in the sun your eyes would burn?
