I have a project for AP English that involves finding examples of "earthy language" but after quite a bit of goggling, I still haven't been able to figure out what it is. Help?

earthy language always meant vulgarisms and crude sayings, language that was not used in "polite" society. unfortunately, I do not know how to give you any examples without all the prudes, red-dots, and "thumbers" getting my answer deleted.
think of the way you or your brother talk, and know that you could not use that language in front of your parents.
look in the Holden caufield book, anything by Leon Uris, much of Hemingway's work. can you think of anything else your parents would not let you read when you were younger. penthouse letters, though fiction, get probably beyond earthy.

"Earthy" language might be considered the language used in our everyday exchanges better know as "street" or colloquial language. A good example of "earthy language" might be Eugene Peterson's paraphrase of the Bible called the Message vs the more elevated language of the King James Version of the Bible. However, the King James Bible was actually written in the street language of 1611.

I'd also like to recommend The Wife of Bath from The Canterbury Tales. She's pretty "earthy."
