Definitely UC-San Diego and UC-Berkeley, although Stanford is also great! The cities are very different and offer a great lifestyle.

Dorms are convenient in that they are on the campus, and can be a wonderful part of the college experience. An apt. can be more expensive and you have to cook for yourself. I, myself, preferred the dorm and cafeteria for the sake of its convenience and the fact that it gave me more time to study. Dorms have a RA (resident advisor) and if it is too loud, they will keep it in check. Apts. do not.

Best wishes and enjoy college!

Here are the more mainstream, well recognized privates schools in CA (rated by me from 1-5, 5 being the best):

-Loyola Marymount University 4

-Pepperdine University 4.5

-Pomona College 4.5

-Santa Clara University 3.5

-Stanford University (obviously the best) 5.0

-University of San Diego 3.5

-University of San Francisco 3.0

- University of Southern California (great school) 4.5

Schools like Occidental and Claremont McKenna are well ranked but they are unknown so basically what i am saying is they suck terribly.

Public schools that are worth mention are:

-UCLA 5

-UC-Berkeley 5

UC-Santa Barbara, UC-San Diego are both 3.5 or 4 schools and UC-Irvine, Riverside, and Davis are also okay schools but not great

good luck hope this helps. By the way if you don't have super duper amazing grades, but have solid grades and are relatively smart then loyola marymount is hugely underrated. Take a look there. If this is not your situation and you are really smart and have great grades obviously take a look Stanford, UCLA, UC-Berkeley, and USC.

And my goodness how could i have forgotten Cal. Tech. amazing school. you need to be a strange bird though to get in there.

First -- no one in California calls it Cali -- so stop doing that now.

I recommend any of the schools in the University of California system, Cal Tech, Stanford and USC. That is about it.

I do not reccoment any of the schols in the CSU system.
