I've been dealing with peri menopause for approx 9yrs. (I can't wait for this stuff to get over) but anyway,
a few months ago, every time I opened my purse I would smell stale cigarettes. (I have never smoked in my life and I bought the purse brand new)
Then after that I would be lying in bed and suddenly smell watermellon
Next it was bubble gum - you know like Bazooka
Then just 2 nights ago at 11:30 at night, I thought I smelled bacon cooking...
This is so weird.. all these different smells keep coming and going...
and yes it happened once before... 24 yrs ago when I was pregnant.. and I had a hysterectomy so there is no chance of being pregnant now..-not that I wouldn't love it.

Well it took the Physician to explain to me that I was Climacteric or peri-menopausal. I was looking forward to THE MENOPAUSE as it seems to be a legal excuse for many things and I have always wanted to drive a Army Tank.
Not quite 3 years since I was told I was climacteric and it seems its over? Have to wait until Jan 2008, but unless anything happens this month, next month or the month after, that it, the end. No I never wanted children, just to drive a Tank. However I have been moaning at weird smells and my Mother has told me nothing is smelling in the Home, but I can still smell it? At least I now know what has been going on, so thank you for filling in the gaps.

Sounds like when your hormones are out of whack it affects your sense of smell. Pregnancy and menopause big hormone fluctuations. Hang in there it will pass and then just old lady syndrome. Oh well we all get older but don't worry these aren't abnormal symptoms
