why does it have holes?

The meteorite has holes for two separate reasons:

Ablation and sublimation.

Ablation is when the surface of the meteorite melts during entry into the atmosphere. Sections melt faster than others due to their composition, or erode, or ablate due to the friction.

Sublimation is when the ices in the meteorite melt, then turn into gas, and burst thru the outer shell.

Hope this helps.

Meteorites are just lumps of metal & rock from space.
Passing through the atmosphere at such great speed,
causes so much heat, that rock can boil & create gases.
The gases make those bubbles, when they have cooled.
That is why the space shuttle has those ceramic tiles.

Hmm- mostly because the rocks that make up meteors haven't been crushed from being part of a large body like the earth. Most of the rocks we see here have gone through million of years of stress and pressure from having immense weights smushed up against them or over them.
