Yes.
As a child we had three 8-tracks that we listened to in our 78' Station Wagon: Niel Diamond, Barbara Streisand, and The Carpenters.
No lie.

Yes. When I was a kid. But they were already on their way out by then. Cassettes were fast becoming popular by then.
My uncle Pete also had a very rare "PlayTape" 2 track cartridge player and a few dozen PlayTape cartridges for it too. It was touted at the time as "The 2-Track Alternative". PlayTape disappeared even faster than the 8-track.

I still have a cabinet stereo with a working 8-track player and still have many of my tapes, still playable. We had a player in a car we owned in the Seventies, and it would be neat to have one again. I now have a cassette player, which is great!
I love the sounds 8-tracks made when they were switching around. I even tape that sound when I transfer songs.
Trust me, 8-tracks had better sound than most CDs! I thought it was my imagination till my sound equipment-addicted brother-in-law told me that I had a good ear and that there definitely IS a difference in recordings on vinyl, cassettes and 8-tracks vs. CDs. I still prefer my other recorded stuff over the CDs.
I was trying to recall what I have in my collection: lots of Joan Baez, the musicals "Purley" and "Scrooge", lots of rock compilations, The Who's "Who's Next?", The Carpenters, my dad's Charley Pride album, and lots more. Most of my collection of that time period is on vinyl. I would tape songs on my little cassette recorder, which meant sitting on my parents' bedroom floor, hoping no one would make too much noise. Ah, memories...

I still have a fisher player and a whole big box of tapes but I never plug it in to try it. The tapes are probably rotten with age. My favorite tape was the sound track to "Ode to Billy Joe"

I go back far enough that if you wanted to listen to music in your car, it was either the radio or an 8-track deck. Mp3 players came along much later....weeks and weeks later.

Oh yeah! It was so cool too! If you wanted to listen to the 9th song on an albumn...you could just jump over the 1st two tracks and listen to two songs and THEN your song would come on! Wow! We were such a patient era... lol
