I am thinking of using soem small bungie cords to help attach to my fairing
The poncho thing needs to be able to fold into a small package and be somewhat flexable hopefully.

Is there is something I can coat a spandex type material to make it waterproof .

Any ideas would be helpful.

The bike is a Vision R42 with a zipper fairing.

I'd use a coated nylon, not a lycra blend. It'll fold well and give you good service. Take a look at some of the various fabric sources given here -- they're mostly specialists in this sort of thing.

I don't think you need to go to the expense of a WPB -- waterproof breathable -- like Goretex -- you're not going to swelter in a poncho, even without a bike. You'll want to use seam sealant for any seams -- I like SeamGrip.

Why not just an appropriate size Tarp? Often in Blue; some with grommets; usually found in Big Box home IMP. stores.

Certainly an Army navy store/ TENT fabric.OR A small Pup tent; used by back packers.

No doubt there are things available that would be less expensive than a custom made for that or any bike, and why bother with the effort to craft your own?

ADDED THOUGHT: I guess the confusion here is in your Q Raincoat...then for a Bike

I'm guessing some sort of plastic would be best. It wouldn't be a good idea to use any fabric that would be non-water resistant such as cloth. Good luck. ;D

it will probably be cheaper just to buy one. Brookstone makes one for 19.99 and it is weather proof and etc. It may be cheaper than using the spandex material to coat it....but if you want one, I would use a nylon fabric, usully runs about 7 or more a yard depending on where you buy and where you live.
