I'm planning to buy a laptop and I'm torn between two Intel processors--dual core t2130 & celeron 1.73. It's obvious that the celeron is much cheaper than the dual core but what about the performance?

T2130 Core2 Duo (1.86ghz, 2x512mb L2) would have comparable performance to Celeron M530 (1.73ghz, 1mb L2) in most single threaded applications. However the Celeron will be outperformed in multi-tasking, multi-threaded apps and symmetric multi-processing.
If you are a casual user, get the Celeron but if you are a power user, get the T2130.

Actually they are pretty close in performance. You can get by with all the basic stuff with a Celeron if budget is an issue. The dual core is more future proof.

Diff between Pentium and Celeron quite often is value in case you purchase a puter with a Celeron center you are able to assume each little thing else to be lesser grade too! even nonetheless for many people who's greater effective than adequate. if all you ever use, software sensible, is observe and excell that's a lot puter on your funds. so why spent 2,500 for a deck of enjoying cards if all you do is play solitaire? in the adventure that your a gamer or graphix clothier like i'm it won't artwork.

Intel Core 2 Dou. Why? Because it has the biggest Level 2 cache available. No don't buy a celeron, they, well frankly they suck

The Dual Core processors will have twice as many processors for the applications and Windows to use. No, it won't be twice as fast as not all applications are process-bound--but it will be faster because competing programs will not have to wait as much. It will also use more power and will need more power to run the fans to keep it cool. Will it run stuff faster? Yup. Is it worth the money? It's up to you. I for one buy the fastest system I can afford as my time is worth something. I hate to wait... ;)

Oh, one other thing. The processor and video system can't be upgraded later when you find they aren't fast enough.
