counseling is the best way. counselors are trained to guide you through all the painful memories and help you understand the thoughts you have about them.
if you don't fully come to understand the experience, you will keep being bombarded with unwanted reminders and the pain will continue to resurface.
if they are still in your life and gloating about, it doesn't sound like you need to forgive them. you only forgive someone if they are sorry.

Well probably if not most, then some of us have been in this situation, but i got one of the best advices, it came from a homeless person, he told me that i should forgive someone for me, because the soonest i'll do it the soonest i'll get over it, and dont carry all that negative feelings, and that forgiveness does not neccesarly ment that you have to be around that person. forgive then for yourself.

Trust me....been down this road. Tried psychs and counselor with no benefit. The only comfort came from God. I knelt down and said,"God you know I cannot deal with this and its too heavy to carry and I lay it at the cross for you". I can honestly say that if my abuser was still alive today I could go up to them with a smile on my face and love in my heart and say, "you know what? Its okay and I forgive you as God has forgiven me of my sins." Hope that helps.

counselors will help you.... You will need to be patient. I promise you that in time you will be able to forgive & surprisingly you will be able to forget, not completely!!! But, enough where you`ll be able to live free with you being in control of your life.
Note: It helps if you have a support system..A family member or friend..

it may sound stupid but they probably have it worse than you. think about it. imagine their life experiences that made them do this and influenced their mindset to allow them to do this. also imagine how they felt after. idk its just my opinion and it may not be true but just a thought.
