Get a therometer and put it near where the turtle is and check the temp from time to time.

UV lights don't give off heat unless they are Mercury Vapor bulbs, which give off UVB and heat. Turtles need both a heat source, set at correct temps for the species, and reptile UVB bulbs within 12 inches of their basking areas. UVB bulbs should be changed every 6 months as the lose potency.

Unless you mean the basking light, it wont produce heat. If your talking about a backing light, you should have a thermometer in the basking area, and one in the water, to maker sure the temps are regulated for both. If it gets too warm you need to move the basking light further away from the basking area.

UV lights shouldn't get to hot enless there is something wrong, basking lights will get hot. a turtle's temp sould be a round their narural habitat's temp but don't go to 120 F for a desert tortoise.

uv light dont give off heat get a thermomiter if you think you tank is over heating keep it around 80 -90 degrees f
