I know this is a bit personal, but I have had a doubles sided dildo that I have washed oh so many times I cant even count and the rubber smell is just horrid and sometimes it even gives an unpleasant feeling while being used. Is there a product that works on this to get it off??

Hi there.. I used to sell adult toys so heres what i know...

there are several different types of vibrator/ dildo

RUBBER - these are the cheaper of most of the available toys and by far the smelliest, because of the make up of them there is no way to get rid of the smell, no matter what you try to use on them, and i would defiantly not recommend bleach, or even soaps, all of these contribute to the decomposition of the rubber leading to more smells. Rubber also is the least hygienic allowing smells and bacteria to permeate the surface, and you never being able to get them truly clean.

Latex - These are slightly better but again depending on the price bracket/ quality these too can have bad odour. Latex also has a high allergic reaction rate ( as it is cheaper than the latex used in condoms) which may be why you have an uncomfortable feeling.

Silicone- is the best way to go in all sex toys, if you can buy German made "fun factory" they have quite high standards, and are great toys but they do come at a price.
Medical grade silicone is used in most German made higher priced toys. These are virtually odourless and do not absorb odours or bacteria and are anti allergenic, making them FAR safer than almost all other toys. Not to mention being a great feel.

Glass- the cleanest of all, easily sterilized- cleaned. Dishwasher safe, just dont drop them, boil them or put them in the freezer ( ouch freezer burn) cool only using ice water of in the fridge.

It comes down to personal preference you need to buy a good toys cleaner such as "clean vibe" if you are in Australia.. they contain ingredients safe for all toys.. they clean and sanitize in one.

Also something to remember is to never store rubber with silicone, or latex etc, the different compounds in these different materials will react to each other and lessen each's quality.

Never dry your toys, the fluff etc from towels stick and harbor bacteria, the safest is to allow to air dry.

Hope this has been of some help....
Good luck...

Wow, don't you think she has already tried that? Stupid boy, he probably just answered this becuase it had the word dildo in it... Anyways, there isn't really a way that I have found to get the smell off. The more you use it the more the smell will go away, at least that's what I have found through my experience. If that doesn't work get another one and ask before you buy it if you can take it out and smell it. Also ask the people at the store about the smell and which ones smell less. I don't know exactly what you mean by an unpleasant feeling, but that is the last thing that a dildo should give you! I would suggest getting another one, or better yet, a vibrator :)

Rubber Dildo

Thanks for the info Pottie, still useful after all these years. Doesn't really address PVC based products which, I gather, are even cheaper and contain phthalates which appear to have health concerns. I'm thinking the double penetration toy that I just got is going to get 1 use and then, if she likes it, I'll get another one from Smitten Kitten or another reputable seller. Spend a little more dough too. I'm guessing if I were a woman I would have known better.

There are other materials used in the production of some dildo. BUT for getting the latex odor gone, there is little that can be done. You may want to give it a coating of a scented lube before using, that will, at least mask the odor. When not in use and after cleaning, stow in a lint free pouch will a coating of powder. Check you supplier for 'special' powder, something like the 'KumaSutra'.

Well, it is latex... You could put it out on a table and let it out gas, but it IS latex. You could get a silicone dildo, they have much less of a smell and more resistant to oils.

The best thing that I have found to clean sex toys in a sex toy cleaner, like the Adam & Eve Toy Cleaner (that is what I use). You can pick it up at any decent adult shop - I tend to use www.love2play.com.au when I need to pick some up, since I am not too keen on visiting a seedy adult shop, and I get it the next day.

Depending on what it's made of the smell might not go away. IF it feels weird and smells bad, maybe you could try using a furity flavored/sented lube?

If the smell doesn't go away no matter how often you wash it, it is time to throw it out and get another one. Make sure you ask the store if this could happen again.
