>>Love this movie & book ~ Drama/Black Comedy.
Its about a criminal who fakes the psycholical tests so he can be transferred to a mental institution (thinking it will be a much easier ride than prison life) He is a larger than life figure who has always 'beaten' the system in some way & the movie is about his domination of the other patients & how he wins them all over. & his determination to 'beat' the system once again ~ depicted by his rebellion against the head nurse. Which in the end works to his detriment & downfall ~ wont say anymore on the story will ruin it if you want to see it. The movie has some very darkly funny bits & very compassionate bits & is very quirky....Well worth watching or reading the book. Both book & movie are awesome.
Hope this helps. Ciao!

It was such a powerful movie. I really loved it. *Spoilers* Throughout most of the movie I really thought that the nurse was going to be secretly good, and on everyone's side, until the whole thing with the World Series happened, and the redheaded kid. It was really suprising to find out that she was really just a jerk, and was more concerned with rules and being in power than she was with helping the people that were there. The ending was really sad too. When the movie ended I was kind of in a bad mood all day because of what they did to him. It was so powerful. It was also very liberating when Chief broke out. This movie is really powerful, it shows a good example of how there was often corruption in the medical system so long ago, and how people with mental health issues were mistreated.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a story about a free-spirited, outrageous guy named Randall McMurphy, who is put into a mental institution, and the effect of his presence upon his fellow patients. His efforts to fight against the rigid, un-healing establishment of the institution help the patients remember and discover their own individuality, but spell disaster for him. A bittersweet drama, sometimes incredibly funny, sometimes disturbing, sometimes terribly sad. Great performance by Jack Nicholson and supporting cast.

We just watched this movie in Abnormal Psychology. I would say it is funny for the most part, but it gets a little dramatic. Good movie though! And a decent representation of how far along psychiatric treatment has come since then!

It's about a man who upon arrival at a mental institution, rallies the patients together to take on the oppressive Nurse Ratched, a woman more a dictator than a nurse. It has both funny and sad moments.

It's definitely a tragedy as opposed to a comedy. It's not romantic or anything like that. However, even though it is a tragedy, the characters all have comedic traits that make certain parts of it funny.

It's a drama about how mental patients treated back in the 60's.
It's drama but there are some funny moments, you can't really call it comedy though...
