My husbands name is Ian.
He wants to name our son Ian too. But spell it Iain and give him a different middle name, so they will be individuals.
I respect what he wants, and really dont mind but was wondering what others thought about the names together.
Iain Hunter L-------.

Thats funny.. Im almost 100% Italian myself. My maiden last name is Zanellato. I love my Irish husband, and dont think it would matter because I was italian if our son had a name that wasnt.
It would be rude to care about something so stupid as that!

I personally like it. i like the middle name Hunter and if I were you would call him that or he might end up with Jr. Although I would also suggest talking to you husband about calling him Hunter Ian. Less confusing once he hits school.

It's creative but at the same time not creative. I always think it's best to name a child a completely different name from there parents (unless unexpected death takes one of the parents away and you want to give them their name a remembrance of them). The spelling of the name doesn't give the child it's on individual status. When people ask him what his name is, they won't be asking for the spelling too. They will say "the same as your father's." When a child is named after the parent I think it intemidates them and makes them feel as if they have to live up to a certain reputation or be better than what they were or something like that. Maybe you should switch it up and make Hunter to be his first name and Ian (not Iain because Ian is a common name with a familar spelling of Ian) to be his middle. That way he is still named after his father, but will now really be his own individual. The name is cute though. That is a common British name. Ian

There was a famous rock star in the 70's named Ian Hunter (leader of the band "Mott The Hoople"; you might have heard "All The Young Dudes" and "Once Bitten Twice Shy"). Might want to take that into account before you decide on a final name.

The alternate spelling "Iain" could be read as "lane" & is rather confusing.

I like the dixie58's suggestion to name your son "Hunter Ian L..."
