It's largely an invention of the media. When it comes to vicious behavior, it's mostly men who commit it. Look at the recent murders at a house party in Wisconsin and a school shooting that left five people injured as examples. Both were carried out by males. I can't think of a single case of a female who decided to go on a shooting rampage because she was rejected by someone and the only female school shooter I can think of is Brenda Spencer, who shot up the playground of an elementary school in 1979.

Because the folks who control the media are guys. It is important for the media to present males as victims, sucked in by some lecherous female. If you look for data that will provide you with accurate statistics collected for the purpose of providing a ratio of gender related killings, you will find that the female is the victim 85% of the time. This should tell you something about gender related intensity of jealousy and anger.

Um, it's hard not to seem sexist when you use "girls" and "men" as contrasting terms. "Girls" and "boys" or "women" and "men" would both be more appropriate, depending on what you're trying to say.
I'm not sure what you're describing though. The media show a lot of vicious behavior generally.
And what the media shows would be best explained by first looking at the motivations of the producers, not by assuming that what they portray is accurate and then asking about women as if they WERE more vicious.

Most men try to keep themselves under control whereas the women believe they are allowed to fly off the handle and be as crazy as they feel like.

I have no clue why. My friends and I are wonderful to each other. We never backstab or catfight or any of that stereotypical bullsh*t.
I dunno what the female equivalent of "Bros before hoes" is, but we've got that.
