friend indeed!! At least that is what the saying says. However, some people say a friend in need is a pain in the butt, but I don't feel that way about my friends. Friends are there to help out when needed, at least in my opinion.

The person in need in this saying is you/me/us, and the friend is a true friend who sticks by you/me/us when we need them most. Why does everyone flip this around to mean a person who wants something? And anyway, so what if they do? Hopefully they'll do the same for you one day.

person who could use some assistance. I'm not into rescue, and I need to know the circumstances that have resulted in why this person has this need. I am also not an enabler,so it is important for the reason this person has sought my help is not one of repeated poor judgment.
