One of the most overlooked of the ealry big names in punk. They put out more material than almost any other '77 punk band and yet still manage to be overlooked by so many when they put out material on par with the best of the rest. Who else thoroughly enjoys this wonderful original punk rock band and believes they deserve more credit than they get?

Other things they deserve credit for:
-First UK punk single
-First UK punk album
-First UK punk band to tour America
-First UK punk band to break up
-First UK punk band to reform

Well it looks like I was right, not many people did/do pay attention to them. I'm not sure if the first (only right now) answer is sarcastic or not, if so I like it, if not there's much better reasons for liking them lol.

Oh and only Vanian ever dressed up like a vampire, or at least gothic like.

Oh good, I was afraid I might not get reponses. I'm happy to see so many fans. "New Rose" is/was every bit as good as the more famous "Anarchy In The U.K." "White Riot" and "Blitzkrieg Bop".

And I love all the lists of songs too, "Disco Man" is definitely a top grade song, but I'm surprised not to see one of my favorites, "I Think I'm Wonderful", an absolute classic. My favorites lately have been "Anti-Pope" "Machine Gun Etiquette" "Suicide" "Creep (You Can't Fool Me)" and almost any song off of the debut, namely "Born To Kill".

Can anyone else figure out why there's so much negativity towards Music For Pleasure? Because I think it's a great album, maybe over shadowed by the albums directly preceding and following it, but so many people try to make it sound like it's a second rate album. I don't understand it.

And I did notice the name Damned Fan, it was part of the inspiration for the question!

I love The Damned...hence my user name!! They are without a doubt the best punk band ever!!! I've only seen them once but what a night it was when I met Captain Sensible!! I have at least 50 t-shirts of them, tons of badges, patches, posters, etc! I like a lot of Captain's solo stuff too...people always say the Sex Pistols were the best but nobody does it better than The Damned!! Machine Gun Etiquette was their best album with the Black Album second!! The best thing about The Damned besides the great music they made was the fact they were never pretentious, never sold out, never gave a toss, always gave a great show & are still around today!!! They had the punk attitude but were still great musicians...they definitely don't get the credit they deserve but they will always be the #1 punk band in my mind!!!

Hey Dan - count me in! I'm an absolute fan of their's. There are other fans of the Damned on YA ... you gotta leave this question posted for a few days --- just wait, they'll come around

My four favorite songs from The Damned are:

"Rabid"
"Ignite"
"Disco Man"

...and "Shadow of Love" (which I swear I can imagine the opening to a punk opera with it's introduction... )

I completely agree - they do deserve more credit!

One of the greatest punk bands of their time. Maybe it's not by accident that they are best kept secret...so to avoid imitators.

Love "New Rose" and "Machine Gun Etiquette"
