The Nobel prizes were started by Alfred Noblel, a Swedish inventor. Toward the end ofthe 1800s, he invented dynamite--intending it primarily as a tool for excavation, mining, etc.
Nobel established the prizes, including the peace prise, partly because he was disgusted with the fact that people used his invention more to kill each other than to build and benefit humanity. His hope was that the pirzs would encourage the use of science and technology for constructive purposes, and the peace prize is intended to help those who work for peace, humanitarian goals, and in general the betterment of mankind.

Nobel was the inventor of dynamite, a boon to civilization.
However, it was quickly secunded for military warfare.
This so dismayed Nobel that he set up the Peace prize.
But awarding it to Gore is a travesty!
