I am putting up crown molding and I want to use a nail gun. I also want to get an air compressor that is not too cheap that I can put in my work shop for future projects. I may do some roofing in the future. What type of air compressor should I get? What type of nail gun for the crown molding? I am on a budget. So I don't want to spend any more than I have to.

No, it won't work. The problem is that the compressor that you are looking to buy is designed to fill up tires, and the connections on the hose will never work for a nail gun. Spend $100 at sears opr home depot and buy a real compressor. Look for something small, 1 hp and 3-6 gallon tank. It's more than you should ever need, but it will always get the job done.

Porter Cable sells a "Mushroom" compressor that comes complet with a brad nailer, hoses, fittings, everything you need to do finish work. Unfortunately, the brad nailer they sell is only good for 18 ga. finish brads. it comes in handy for Baseboards, quarter round, wainscotting, or fine work where you only need small brads.

the cost is about $200.oo for the set. Now...go to the rentals section and rent a finish nailer that drive 16GA 2 1/4" finish nails. You'll need to buy a box of the proper nails for the gun.

Just rent the gun for a day! you'll have the crown moulding up in no time. Then, return the nailer. it will cost about $65.oo for the day.

Find a compressor that is easy to carry on the job site. You do not need allot of air pressure to run nail guns.I have an old craftsman "hot dog" type that has been running every day for over ten years.I have bought porta cable, dewalt and both gave me more problems then the craftsman.A coil roofing nail-er will work fine on a small compressor.I have used one for allot of years. As for a gun I only use Senco-you get what you pay for.

for about $300 , dewalt make a good one,
for crown molding , you will need ,a t, nailer. 2in nails
for roofing , you will need 3in nails, for frameing
to drive these big nail guns, you will need, a good compressor, if you get one with wheels, it much easy to work with

lowes sell them all i would try for a combo , one big nail gun,one small one ,and the compressor , $375

stick with a hammer and finishing nails,
if you planning on doing roofing it will take an expensive air comp to keep up with a roofing nailer, for a good shop air comp, get one at wal-mart,
