I've been answering and reading lots of answers about snowboarding, and consider myself pretty knowledgeable but one thing I just can't understand is why so many people think Burton is exceptionally better than other snowboard brands.

People need to realize that Burton is not always the best, and in many cases, they are not, but you can always count on their products being overpriced for what you get.

Please tell me how some of you get this misconception, because it truly makes you look like an idiot to those of us that actually know something about snowboarding.

Burton does make a good product, but I think it is more the advertising and the product hype that makes people think they are the best.

There are other brands that are as good or better, have more technology in their products and more people ride them, but they don't have the "name" that Burton does. I wouldn't buy one just because of the proprietary bolt pattern that only uses 3 screws to hold your bindings instead of 4 screws.

So those of us that know can buy a better board for less money and know that we aren't buying into the hype - what is wrong with that?

Burton are the biggest and most well known brand in snowboarding. They are the only company that really cators for all riders, they have a great womens and kids selection of products and also sell alot of wide boards and make boards for all levels and types of rider. They are also snowboarding pioneers and deserve respect for that alone. I agree that some of there boards are overpriced but some are very reasonably priced such as the Burton Blunt and also all of there entry level boards are good value for money. On the down side there bindings arnt the best and there boots could be better also, there clothing range is good quality but some of it is rediculously overpriced. Burton is also the kind of company you love or hate alot of people who percifically buy Burton products are all the gear and no idea types, who are more into poseing than actually riding but i suppose thats up to them really. Overall i would say Burton is a good all round company, but as you say not as exeptionally better than other snowboard brands as many people like to belive.

Thank you. You are so right. Burton is not all that good. They are a cool looking, over priced piece of poo. Back in the day they were good they made quality. Now its all about making money.

Lots of the money that could be going into making a better product goes into making the pros they sponsor look good. I am not saying they are not good. I love Hanna. But they are putting lots of the money and time into advertising. Kids see Sean White and know he rides burton. They think if I ride burton I will be like him. Then they get the jacket and stuff and see it only lasts one season.

because Jake Burton was the pioneer of the sport and the name has been there forever. brand recognition means a lot in today's world of merchandising. also, the older the brand the more R&D has occured and also the more trial and error on ideas and perception have taken place. I feel the same way about salamon and those products
