With all of Arsenal's attacking football and the media worldwide showering them with compiments on their beautiful displays, Arsene Wenger and Pat Rice (assistant manager) were both defenders during their playing days.

Well... cant say anything about that. But what position Wenger played as player? Was he a wing-back? If so, then when he was playing he might get involved in offense.

But I think naturally a coach who was a defender will choose more defensive tactics and his team plays in an organized way. A coach who was a striker or attacking midfielder will choose more offensive tactics and his team plays attacking football, perhaps with lots of improvisation.

offense is the best defence. when your team holds the ball majority of the time, you are stopping them from attacking.

everything is built based on what players the team has. if you have offensive minded players, you shouldn't change them into a defensive minded team.

getting the best out each player is all a coach can do. if your team's wingers and midfielder have speed, why stop them from going do the side and crossing the balls?

most team play heavy defensive because they dont' have creative players and they are not fast enough to recover for counter-attack.
