Geocentric (earth centered) or Heliocentric(sun centered) are the correct terms.

But you are probably looking for the Copernican system (Heliocentric) as opposed to the Ptolemaic system (Geocentric). Copernicus was the Renaissance astronomer who refuted the earlier works of Ptolemy.

the geocentric theory basically said that the sun and the known planets (at the time) rotated around the earth.

the heliocentric model says the earth and planets rotate around the sun.

Geocentric (geo=Earth, centric=center): the sun revolves about the Earth.
Heliocentric (helio=sun, centric=center): the Earth revolves about the sun.

Maybe you're looking for the word "paradigm"? That's the word Thomas Kuhn used to describe the set of basic principles and underlying assumptions scientists use when they communicate with each other. You can read about it in Kuhn's Structure of Scientific Revolutions.
