Hello, When did you all start taking prenatal vitamins. Did you wait till your first appt around 12 weeks? or when exactly did you start. I am 9 weeks and don't have an appt till 10 weeks, is that too long to wait for the vitamins?

Some women start taking them even before they are pregnant, so you can start right away.

You don't have to wait to get them from your doctor. Every pharmacy carries them over-the-counter.

So long as you are taking anything with 400 units of folic acid, you can wait as long as you want. If you suspect that you may be anemic (eat little meat, for instance), then take regular vitamins for the iron.

So far, only folic acid and avoiding low iron or anemia have been shown to have ANY affect provided you have a good diet. If you have a poor diet, vitamins really don't make up for it.

I started mine before I was pregnant. You don't have to wait. Buy a small bottle of prenatal vitamins to hold you out until you see the Dr.

i started taking them at my 3 month appointment, but thats because i wasnt for sure about being pregnant. You can start taking them now, there is no harm in taking them. My doctor told me after i had my son to continue taking them until the bottle ran out....the vitamines cant hurt you or your baby

As soon as I took my prgnancy test and it was positive I went to the store and bought some.I didn't have an appointment until 2 weeks later. And when I went the doctor was glad to hear I had already started taking them:)

As long as your taking care of yourself you should be fine but if you are worried about it then go to Target or Walmart any store like those would have over the counter pre-natal vitamins....

Congrats!!!!!!

i started taking them a month before getting pregnant.
folic acid is absolutely crucial in the development of your baby's spine, so you better start taking at least that as a supplement to your diet.
