No United States senator has been elected president since John F. Kennedy in 1960, but former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani (R) is challenging an even more formidable historical hurdle: No former mayor has been elected president since Grover Cleveland of Buffalo in 1884 and Calvin Coolidge of Northampton, Mass., in 1924," reports the New York Times. "And no mayor has ever become president without serving first in some other elective office beyond City Hall.

If the Mayor was coming from Small Town USA, I would say he was unqualified. But calling he mayor of NYC one stop up from the food chain is pretty ridiculous. He has managed a city of 8.2 million people, that's not an easy job to get elected to. If you want to say that you are apprehensive because he has never been elected to a national position, I'd say you have a valid point. But to compare him to a Fast Food Manager is completely foolish.

Is being the Mayor of a city with several million people a tougher job than the Governor of a state with half a million?
Howard Dean, the former Governor of Vermont was almost the Democratic Nominee in 2004, yet he was the Governor of a state with the population smaller than dozens of cities in the US.
I don't support Giuliani, but he's "qualified" when you look at his credentials; he's disqualified in my book when you look at how much of an idiot he is.

If New York City were an independent state, it would be the 11th largest in population. So it'd be like Paul Brown going from Massilon High to coach in the pros.

Nice observation.
Rudy - Made his fortune off the worst tragedy in American history.
Obama - Barely a 1 Term Senator who was forced fed to us through the media since 2004.
Clinton - Socialist wife of a fairly decent and popular former president, but has only talked of INCREASED spending programs from the government and less personal freedom.
Thompson - Who? This guy shows up late, barley says anything and on the issues; he sounds like Bush.

LOL!!! For MOST cities, that would be true, but NYC is, of course, very different. It has more people than many states (including New Mexico, so if we're disqualifying Rudy...)!!!
Rudy has more executive experience running and managing than any of the top three Democrats.
