the ferris wheel at the 1893 world's Columbian exposition i Chicago had a diameter of 250ft. Its 36 passenger cabs could hold a total of 2160 people. Suppose the cabs were evenly spaced. About how far apart would they have been?

The diameter is 250ft.
The circumference (distance around the perimeter of the circle) would be:
pi * diameter
= pi * 250 ft
= 785.4 ft

The space between each car would then be found by dividing the circumference by 36:
= 785.4/36
=21.8 ft

The circumference of the wheel = πD
Where π = 3.14
and D = Diameter = 250 ft
circumference = 3.14 x 250 ft
= 785 ft
Spacing of cabs = 785 / 36 ft
= 21.805555 ft
= 21 ft 9.66 inches

Perimeter of Circle = pi * Diameter
= pi * 250 ft

No. of cabs = 36
Therefore space between them = pi * 250 / 36=21.8 ft

find the circumference which is Pi times d. pi is 3.14 and d is given as 250. divide the circ by 36 and this answer is how far apart the cars are

I think:

The circumference of a circle can be calculated from its diameter using the formula: Pie (3.141) times diameter

so if your diameter is 250 ft. then multiply it by 3.141 which equals 785.25 feet.

785.25 feet divided by 36 = 21.8125 feet apart
