Does high self esteem really make 'better' people?

Self esteem is not over rated...but it is frequently misunderstood. Self esteem can not be bought at Walmart or Neiman Marcus. Self esteem cannot be distributed by educators or given to children like vaccines or vitamins. Self esteem develops within a person who becomes self aware and consciously strives to live with integrity.

It is never over rated, but teaching kids that self-esteem is what they should feel for every "good intention" does them harm. Better people have higher self-esteem, not the other way around. Self-esteem comes from performing to ones own set of standards, even if you adopt them from someone else, like doing it the way the coach says because the coach is teaching you what you don't know. Achieve the coach's standards and your own are raised in the experience. The higher your achieved standards (the "better" you are as person) the higher your self-esteem will be--automatically.

It's not overrated. But no, self-esteem doesn't determine how good of a person you are. I know many people with not so great self esteem who are some of the nicest most caring people that I know. Sometimes people can confuse confidence with ********* & think that in order to seem confident they have to be rude. Well it's not a good way. Kindness goes a long way & if you can be confident & kind at the same time, even better.

This is the cause of much problems and distress in public schools and many situations in life.
It seems contradictory that public schools are so obsessed with self-esteem, while prisons and jails are full of people with high self-esteem.
So, the results are in: self-esteem IS over-rated; those with high self-esteem tend to be undesireables.

Self-esteem is often misunderstood. It is very important to a healthy living. It is not narcissism. Some people have it in droves because it was passed on to them by individuals who also have it in droves, and to them it is not an issue. Those who have low self-esteem are less likely to go after their dreams and less likely to create a life they are happy living.

The higher the self esteem, the higher the ego, and thus a higher pain in the ***.

The true self does not need it & the false self can never get it, being based on an error. So yes. If self help books actually worked, no one would need them anymore. Thanks.
