If you open iTunes and go to "Edit => Preferences... => Advanced => Burning" you can select the format for burning CDs.

what i do is burn it onto a CD then download that CD back onto the computer...then when the songs from the CD is in your library you right click on it and click on "convert selection to MP3 format"

the only problem is that you'll have two of every song and you'll have to go and delete those songs

the good thing though is that if anything ever happens to your itunes and you end up losing all your music for some reason you wont lose all your purchased songs because you've made a back up of the songs.

iTunes uses a special song type. I use a program called NoteBurner, I think its like $35.00. It converts iTunes songs into MPS, WAV, etc. Its super simple to use and you dont have to use any CD's

amazon.com sells songs in mp3 format so you don't have to deal with AAC DRM.
