Alot of places I submit short stories say they want the document in rich text format or .rtf. But when I convert my wordperfect document, it looks messed up. To me, it looked fine, but an editor ( grumpy) said he liked my story but literally cursed me out for having bad formatting. I think maybe I am doing something wrong in wordperfect. I know all about font, margins etc, What I am talking about is basically how to set up wordperfect for an author, and convert the file properly. I want it to look professional and polished. I thought I was doing everything right, but I guess not...Help, thank you!!!

Anytime a conversion from WordPerfect to Microsoft Word rtf there will be transpositions and omitted letters. Often indentation is messed up too.

Your best option is to use Microsoft Word and then convert to rich text format.

WordPerfect is great and seldom gets messy, but when converting to MS Word, you can count on problems.

Many literary agencies and publishing houses prefer accepting manuscripts in Microsoft Word document format; seldom WordPerfect.
