i mean kind of squiggly) like the shape of little worms) that are suddenly appearing over my back lawn which is usually all nice and green well cut grass.it looks as if somethings been digging it up everywhere

It's earthworm poop. You have earthworms tunneling through the dirt under your lawn. As they tunnel, they ingest the dirt and their digestive systems filter out nutrients for them. They then discard the poop (also known as earthworm casings) on the surface when they come up again.

Don't worry. Earthworm casings is one of the best fertilizers around. And, the earthworms are aerating your lawn for you. If you really don't like looking at them, rake them into the lawn. But, they are definitely extremely beneficial to the lawn.
