I don't think gender plays a role. However, I do find myself reading more books by female authors because they usually use female main characters--which I can identify with easier. Some of my favorite female authors are: Kim Harrison, Jane Austin, and Julie Anne Peters.

No. I actually prefer books written by guys most of the time. I do love many female authors, but I think sometimes women get a little emotional, and tend to be more shallow and naive about certain things. And they pretty much only write about love and relationships.
I love a good futuristic sci-fi story from a guys POV.

No, the sexes are equal mentally. Gender is just physical differences, we all have the same brains.
I haven't read a female author since school, so I don't really have a favorite, they just don't write the kinds of books I like generally, or if they do I haven't found them yet.

There's no way to provide an objective opinion.
I prefer male writers probably for the sole reason I am man!
Did really like Brick Lane by Monica Ali - great book.

From my observation (I'm a man in the Air Force, 12 years) .. women get treated better and live in better conditions in the Air Force than in the Navy

the bronte sisters . I think women make better writers because we tend to be more emotional than men therefore we write from our feelings and our hearts . good luck .

Neither is "better" than the other. It all comes down to "style"; which writer's style do you like better?
