How ugly will this election get, especially after the nominations?
I think it's going to be the most divisive and hard fought election we've seen in our lifetimes. More so if it's say, Hillary and Rudy, but even barring both of them, it's going to be a dilly. What are your thoughts on this? Do you welcome such an election or does it make you feel tired just thinking about it?

If it gets as ugly out there in the general public as it does here on this political board I fear that the death toll due to political causes will be greater that that caused by auto accidents. I've never seen such anger and hatred for fellow Americans as I've seen here and I've been around. It's no longer a fun thing, it's gotten serious. Some one tell me I'm wrong, please.

This is the never-ending presidential election. I feel it has all the earmarks of being wrapped up early...in the sense that poll numbers are going to remain static from Labor Day through mid-October, and the national party that is flaming out will divert money into other crucial races. So - within my scenario - the nastiness may actually come out in selected House and Senate races, especially the latter.

It's a reflection of the conflict left in society by the current administration. The hope is the peculiar genius of a democratic form of government. Over time it tends to balance itself, to correct wild swings that result from crises and reach a stable point. It remains to be seen whether we can do that under the current stresses. Winston Churchill said that democracy is a very poor form of government --- but it's better than any other form we have been able to come up with.

I think just the length of the campaign is maddening, never mind that we have what seems like millions of candidates who don't seem to actually fit many people's ideas of genuine presidential candidate material.
After this election is finally over, I hope Congress is smart enough to sign on a time limit for presidential campaigning!

I think '04 was as divisive and nasty as it can get. '08 will be as bad, though.
Actually, Rudi would be a gem compared to Romney as the nominee. Believe me, I'm from MA.

The primaries aren't here yet and I'm worn out already. You're right though. I thought that past elections were bad, but this will prove to be the dilly of all of them, with the whole world watching us make fools out of ourselves. Wonderful, eh?
Nope, I don't welcome it.

Rudy will not win because he is too liberal and the base will not support him in a primary.
The real question is will a Republican nominee be a conservative. I think that man is Mike Huckabee. Fred Thompson has blown it. McCain is hated by conservatives. Romney is a Mormon and that will cost him in too many states.

All elections/campaigns are tedious.
Ideally, they should bring out the BEST in the candidates...not the worst.
May the best one win.
Personally, I hope its Hillary. Time will tell...

I think it will be a major dilly. I've seen the polls but I still don't think Hillary is the best candidate.
I like the dirty campaigns they are entertaining.

It will be dirty but I don't live in a swing state but the poor people who do will be bombarded by one misinformation commercial after another. For them I feel sorry.
