Yes you can, however it wont work as well as it would in the window. Window units are not as long as through the wall units. So in putting the window unit through the wall you will be covering some of the louvers that allow air to flow across the condensor coil. You will also shorten the life of the unit. Condensation might be a problem and if it gets in your walls you will then have a mold issue. Personally I would not put your window unit into your wall. My brother in law did this at his office after I told him he shouldn't and now he has a unit in the wall that doesn't cool very well. If he would have purchased a unit that was made to go through the wall he would be fine.

Should work as long as you have it placed at the right angle so any condensation will go OUTSIDE instead of into the wall...that is the difference, the window is the same theory...its just an allready provided hole, dont have to actually cut one into your house, :) Its all good, just make sure your BTU's are enough to cool the space you wish, but otherwise your on the right track. Mount it really well if its a permanent fixture, and in the winter time heat can escape through the area so go and get some industrial window lining and tape it over the AC Unit and wall and it will keep some of the heat transfer from going trhough it. Good Luck hun. My ex hubby was military but his other skill was HVAC work. I studied with him for his schooling and so picked up a little bit, just dont ask me to do the schematics thing, we had to color in a visual aid too...regarding heat transfer, aced it but arg is all I have to say!:) Take Care.-Rachel.

Probably. Measure to make sure that the vents on the outside of the unit where the hot air blows out, and the water drips, are beyond the thickness of the wall you want to install the unit in. When you cut a hole in the wall be sure to cut as small a hole as possible, reinforce the area because ACs are heavy, and make sure it's on an angle so water doesn't come back in.

I have a window unit in my bedroom and it goes through the wall not a window. You have to have a bracket to hold it on the outside. It has a frame around the unit and it is insulated so there are no hole or openings from outside.

It will work as well as the job you do fitting it. The house next door has this. The window unit is left in place all winter, too. I would cover both the out side as well as the inside during the winter (it gets cold in the Chicago area!).

Yes but most people don't want to knock a hole in a load bearing wall just to put an a/c unit in.

Of course. It's just called a window unit, but you can use it where ever as long as one end is inside and the other out.

I don't think so . I have one in addition to my central b/c TX is too TFH! You have to have someway for the condensation & warm air to escape & bring in the cool air. I am not a tech though. You could find out at an a/c supply or home improvement store.

If you cut a hole in the wall that will accommodate the dimensions of the a/c, with a snug fit, and then seal the opening with waterproof caulking material, it will work just fine.
