It's possible that the program performed an update and that the computer needs to be rebooted. Try this first.

It's also entirely possible for some rare viruses to disable antivirus... usually this happens when people neglect to have their software automatically updating, or they choose the wrong option when alerted to a problem (basically infecting themselves), or because they are not even using good software (like free ware).

I strongly suggest you use a security suite (a/v, firewall, anti-spyware, etc) from a RELIABLE vendor (like mcafee, norton, etc) and make sure the product is properly configured and automatically updating.

If your suite is from one of these vendors, reboot, and close out of any running programs, try forcing an update of your product and then perform a complete scan.

You can also perform a web based scan from http://housecall65.trendmicro.com
this will scan AND remove.

Also, if you do not have antispyware and do not intend to follow advice on upgrading your security suite to one that contains this... you can get Spybot S&D at http://www.safer-networking.org

Good Luck

Did you try to do a complete shut down. Some times you Anti-Virus will reboot itself after you shut the computer off for about 30 seconds and restart it.

If you use a contracter like norton just reinstall it and then have it search your computer for a virus.

you could go into your security center and pull up your security list/enable it and then run a full scan at least twice and if you have any other secruity prorams ,run them at least twice. I have Macafee security suite for the last two years and I love it.

this program consistently blocks any suspicious pings on my computer
