I don't get it, the man plays probably the cleanest game of any big time star.... yet he gets booed and gets the business from other teams and fans more than I've ever seen anyone else...

I have no idea who he is, nor do I wish to. I hate him already because of his stupid name. It's almost as bad as that gay guy Kunsan! (private joke).

I wasn't aware that everyone "hates" Jagr. He is an incredibly skilled player, but he does have a few negative tendencies that make him unpopular:

1. Nobody can deny his offensive talent, but defensively he is a liability. He glides on D, often isn't willing to go into the corners or block shots, and generally doesn't participate in any of the grittier aspects of hockey.
2. For a few years, it seemed like he would often not show up and give 100%. He would glide for a while and then really turn on the jets when he had the puck or when the puck was nearby. He was often criticized for this and it is a legit complaint because players should be expected to give 100% at all times.
3. Up until very recently in New York, his work ethic was often questioned. Towards the end of his stint in Washington it seemed like he had just given up.
4. He has never really led a team deep into the playoffs. He won a couple of Stanley Cups in Pittsburgh and performed well, but the times were different and he was surrounded by hall of fame calibre talent in Mario Lemieux, Ron Francis, Kevin Hatcher, Paul Coffey, Mark Recchi, Bryan Trottier, Larry Murphy, Joe Mullen, Tom Barrasso, etc. Nowadays though, the playoffs are a lot more physical. This ties into his lack of grit, but he hasn't led a team deep in the playoffs for a while now.

JJ had the potential to be in the same superstar stratosphere with the likes of Lemieux,Gretzky, Orr, Messier, Richard and Howe.. He unfortuneatly took too many nights off. Despite his immense talent he would float through to many a game. Tempermental and tempestous. His intensity level was never consistent. If he did not like the coach he quit. (re: Washington Capitals) He never plays through injury and would rarely backcheck..when he decided play(98 Czech Republic Gold Medal comes to mind) he is untouchable. To bad JJ is figuring this out now and not sooner..still fun to watch though. Remember he won 2 cups with the Pens.
If he wins a cup for the Rangers all of these points are moot.

I guess you haven't been around much. I can think of literally dozens of players that are hated more than Jagr. In fact, I don't know that I have ever met someone who didn't like him. If anyone IS booing him, it is only because he is so good. Crosby is probably "hated" more than Jagr for this same reason. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I didn't realize any "unnecessary" hatred (aside from booing the opponents' best player) for Jagr. I thought such stuff was reserved for the 4th line thug who took out some superstar's knee, but maybe that's just me.

I didnt know people hated Jagr, i kinda like him.. not in a gay UHUH way, but in a "Hey, Hows it going" or "Hunny, why is jaromir jagr in my living room?, Oh hes just here to remind you that hockey started" kind of way.

I don't hate Jaromir. He just fine. Though since he went to the Rangers I kinda forget that he there.

Hes good yes, but hes arrogant, a pretty-boy, a cry baby and has been surrounded by talent his entire career. I don't think he would be as good (he would still be good) if he hadnt played in pittsburgh with Mario or in NYR with the various talent the blueshirts have had over the years. Look how he disappears easily in the playoffs (Buffalo made him disappear fairly well in past years).

HA! A rivalry of Rangers vs. Devils and Isles!
Jagr, good player, too cocky, and cries...

Not me. I like the kid from Kladno. I saw him play his first game in LA many moons ago and he was good.

Why does anyone like him? He's an arrogant jerk. And as far as clean goes, I guess you missed his attempt to throw an elbow during the last Rangers/Devils series when the Rangers were getting their butts whooped. You remember he threw out his shoulder. Looked good on him.
