The info on the Grand Canyon is overwhelming. Too much information!!! I would like suggestions on what airport to fly in to. Phoenix? We will be renting a car but don't want to drive too much. Also, any suggestions on where to stay and the particular things that I shouldn't miss on the trip. I appreciate any and all help.

1. Flagstaff, AZ - may be too small for you to get to cheaply
2. Las Vegas, NV - taking a rental car to the Canyon is 4 hours drive and includes passing by either Hoover Dam or Bullhead City
3. Phoenix - same as #2, only the sights are Flagstaff and maybe a jaunt through old highway 89A to see the ranch areas southwest of Flagstaff that are getting so popular.

Before any of us can answer your question we will need to know
*When are you planning on doing this trip ?
* How long will you be in the area?
* Is below the Rim overnight hiking in your plans ?
Thanks

I would say to fly out to Las Vegas (McCaren Intl. Airport). Because it's a tourist's town you are going to to find WAY better deals on car rentals than you would from Phoenix.
