1945 played the Tigers. That was the year the goat guy cursed the Cubs. It was also the 4th time the Cubs played the Tigers in the World Series. The others were in 1907,1908,1935. The Cubs won in 1907 and 1908. Tigers won in 1935 and obviously 1945.

1945 was the last year the Chicago Cubs was in the world Series, and in that same year William "Billy" Sianis, who at the time, was the owner and founder of Billy Goat Tarvan, which is a burger chain in Chicago, the orginal one is still in business at 430 North Michigan that is close to Tribune Tower, WGN Radio 720, and the Chicago Tribune. Check out this book called "A Chicago Tavern: a Goat, a Curse, and the American Dream" by Rick Kogan. You can find it almost anywhere, including Bill Goat Tarven's website.

1945 was the last time they were in the World Series as Chipmaker has already stated...it should be noted that a Cub did actually win a World Series ring in 2004...while Nomar Garciaparra played the last part of the 2004 season with the Cubs he was still awarded a World Series ring from the Boston Red Sox for his contributions to the Red Sox during that season.
