While the MAIN SUSPECTS in the case of missing Madeleine McCann are living it up as VIP's with celebrity staus, and a million in the bank in the UK, over in Portugal they leave a trail of ruined lives in their wake.

We read that Robert Murat, who was implicated by the McCanns friends, told BBC News: "It's been five months, my savings have gone, mum's doing what she can, and it's just very, very difficult."

His relative, Sally Eveleigh, added: "There's no evidence against him, he hasn't seen his daughter for over five months, he has no finances now - all his savings have gone - and he needs to rebuild his life. His life is on hold."

We also read that those friends and business contacts of Robert have also had trouble.

Once Robert Murat is cleared and the real culprits in this case brought to justice, who should Robert Murat sue for compensation ?

If I was him I'd start with the stupid Sky translater who blatantly lied about his false eye (the one he doesn't actually have) to the millions of viewers of the news.

I would probably then move on to Jane Tanner and the rest of the Tapas tossers who sat in that room at the police station and accused him of this crime.

Then I'd pop an invoice in to the McCanns for the time he and his mother spent trying to help locate Madeleine.

I'm sure there's a cheque in the post from Mr Branson though - we know he's a fan of fairness and justice.

If Robert Murat could demonstrate that he had been identified by one or more people maliciously, then he would have a case against them. I'm not aware of any serious evidence that this is the case, though.

It's an unfortunate fact that people can be wrongly suspected of wrongdoing. The McCanns themselves are only suspects. They have not been charged as yet and might never be. They could suffer all that Robert Murat has experienced and they still have the loss of their daughter to bear. And they very well might be innocent, too.

Just because you have made up your mind that they are guilty (of something, you don't seem to much care what) doesn't make it true. Repetition will not make it true, either.

The case is far from over and the only rational, intelligent thing to do is to maintain an open mind.

I have a lot of sympathy for this man. His name was dragged through the mud in the press, and he was accused of all kinds of nasty things. The PJ told him a month ago that he was effectively cleared, and that they have nothing on him. The McCanns obviously do have some evidence against them, and yet they are treated like heroes. Robert Murat has kept his head down and conducted himself with nothing but dignity, and I think that it's about time he got his status lifted so he can rebuild his life. As for lawsuits, the first one I would bring would be against Jane Tanner (the woman who claimed to have seen him with Madeleine), and if I felt the need for another, I would bring one against the McCanns for ruining his life (they welcomed him being made a suspect, and did everything in their power to make sure he stayed that way.) He'll probably keep his dignity though, and just fade out of the picture. I feel sorry for him, his life has been effectively destroyed by media lies (and the McCanns have the cheek to complain about THEIR media troubles, at least it isn't occurring in two countries, like it was with Murat, and they haven't been accused of paedophilia, unlike Murat.) If I were him, I would do a McCann, and sue the media for libel and defamation of character.

Funny isn't it. An innocent man whose only mistake was trying to search for someone elses daughter - whilst the parents jogged, blogged and set up a limited company (all in about three days of their daughter going missing) is made a suspect. Where was Richard Branson helping out an ex pat - uhm no where to be seen. Where were the British police protecting them - no where to be seen. Why is it that Robert Murat's name was splashed all over the papers with out any proof of his involvement and no one defended him - innocent until proved etc. Different story with the McCanns isn't it? We have DNA evidence implicating them in the disappearance of their daughter, ever ending lies spouting from their mouths, full backing from Richard Branson and other equally sad and opportunist celebrities and no one can believe that they did it - everyone leaping to their defence like somehow they are not capable of doing harm to their daughter - I think the fact that they neglected their children in the first place shows just what sort of people they really are.

One of your answerers has suggested that Murat sue the media. Unfortunately, as a lot of us know, only those who have money behind them (and we all know who has money in this matter) can afford to sue. Anyone else has to put up with the situation and just hope they are cleared. But again, as we know, once an accusation has been aimed at someone, even if proven completely innocent at a later stage, mud sticks and a life can be ruined.

Unfortunately mud sticks. The McCanns slung an awful lot of it to shift attention from themselves. I would start by suing the reporter who started the speculation undoubtedly from her McCann source and then Jane of the Tapas 9 who blatantly lied. The problem is the poor man has not got a million quid to do this!

I understand that Gerry is trying to keep the blog up-to-date from a human interest angle in order to keep people reading it. But, why doesn't anyone from Team McCann say: "Hey Gerry! No one cares about your exercise schedule (or how many times you've been to the airport or how many visitors you have had). The public wants to hear what you are doing to find Maddy. Remember: it should be Maddy in the morning, Maddy in the afternoon and Maddy at night. Let's try to stay focused, man!"

While the Main Suspects in the case are being protected by H.M Government, there is no chance that the McCanns will ever pay for their crimes.Notice l use the word crimes. For not only might they be guilty of killing, and then disposing of Madeline, but they are,on their own admission ,guilty of child abandonment---desertion.Have they been charged with this crime .NO.And why is the Government giving them their own team of Spin Doctors.......how many other criminals have they helped in this way..?It makes me wonder ,with the number of very wealthy, and influential people helping them whether they are Freemasons.members of a secretive sect. Then all the help they have received would make sense

I feel nothing but sympathy for him as there is not,as far as we know, any evidence against him. But who could he sue? No-one, the damage to him cannot be put right now. I think it is made worse because the people who discredited him have been shown to be liars, and they, hopefully will pay with their own reputations. Apart from that, he can do nothing as far as I know.

Yeah no millionaires offering to help him, maybe it's because he's innocent and loves his child....

The McCanns who abandoned their child and with their cronies managed to destroy vital evidence, and concoct a serious of misleading and contradictory stories are living it up big style! Where is the justice? I think the Portuguses Police should sue them for slander and Murat should sue them and their deceitful 'friends' for ruining his life!
