You add the exponents, and multiply any numbers which apply to unknowns (like b or x).
So,
1. 4^(9+7+1)=4^17
2. (1x4)b^(2+10)=4b^12
3. (7x6)x^(8+3)=42x^11

when the base is the same add the exponents and multiply the coefficients in togethr
4^9 times 4^7 times 4^1 = 4^(9+7+1)
b^2 times 4b^10 = 4b^(2+10)
7x^-8 times 6x^3 = (7 times 6)x^(-8+3)

1. 4^9+7+1 power + 4^17. They aren't trying to ask for a real number, they want to hammer this rule into your head... memorize it.

2. your problem is really 1b^2 times 4b ^10 which equals 4b^2+10 = 4b^12... get it?

can you do the last one???

7times 6 is still 42. can you finish it? (and -8+3 is still -5... but sometimes they don't want a neg. exponent.... remember that rule?

1) 4^9x4^7x4^1
=4^(9+7+1)-------when bases are same ,powers are added
=4^17
2)b^2x4b^10
=4b^(2+10)
=4b^12
