The big deal is that nothing lies beneath philosophy. Philosophy IS what lies beneath.
All things, science, religion, psychology, politics, ethics, etc. are quantifiable. Nothing quantifiable, however, has a theoretical basis on its own. Philosophy is the theory underlying EVERYTHING. Philosophy, therefore, begins where all else ends...at the realm of the metaphysical.
If you're young and just starting to be interested in what I'm saying, I know it's hard to believe. It's hard to believe that science (of all things) is not bedrock. It, in fact, is not. Science stands or falls on a foundation of philosophy.
Let us take for example something as basic as Newton's Laws of physics. It's not that people, by and large, KNOW these basic laws to be true. People believe them to be. Back in the days of Newton, only a privileged noble and intellectual few could've even hoped to appreciate the supremacy of Newton's ideas.
Most people were involved in a religious experience where God and the church reigned supreme. Ideas such as Newton's were blasphemous if you thought such notions superceded the power of God.
Enter Spinoza. To this very day, the philosophy of Spinoza holds religion at bay, allowing science to prosper. Maybe someday, a great philosopher will make a case that turns man's mind back towards God, like it is in the Middle East. They know about science there, but it just doesn't occupy as significant a portion of the collective conscience.
You've asked a simple question which has a HUGE answer. Sorry for droning on, but what I've said is only a parsect compared to what can be said on this topic.

Philosophy might say considered one of the stuff: "i'm a huge deal as a results of fact I exists as such." "i'm a huge deal as a results of fact that's the style you notice me." "Am I a huge deal? Or is each thing else a small deal?" "Am I a huge deal by potential of loose will? Or became it predestined for me to be a huge deal?" in spite of the shown fact that all of it seriousness, Philosophy is barely a huge deal as a results of fact human beings make it so. basically as something it relatively is a huge deal. Why is something a huge deal? relies upon who you ask.

No big deal on the personal level, but not unlike religion, when it becomes institutionalized or politicized, it can become a royal pain in the rear. Other than that, it can be quite entertaining.

Metaphysics is the "first science of sciences," without which no other questions can have rationally cohesive answers. Epistemology is how you prove they are rationally cohesive. Ethics teaches you respect for human rights. Politics, done right, results in the lessons of rationally cohesive ethics weaved into the structure of law. Aesthetics judges the rational cohesiveness of themes and subjects of art.
