i immediately think that it contains some truth. especially if you no longer live with them. you can kind of cut yourself off if you are not financially dependent.
it is neither advice nor a warning. from my point of view it is input to a person's process about how to handle their relationship with their parents. i think it's only going to be true if you are willing to no longer be financially dependent. ie their money will go away, too.
