Pre-1969, the only playoffs were the World Series. Teams that swept were:
- 1914 Boston Braves
- 1927, 1928, 1932, 1938, 1939, & 1950 New York Yankees
- 1954 New York Giants
- 1963 L.A. Dodgers
- 1966 Baltimore Orioles
During the single-round division playoff era (1969-93), the teams that swept both their league playoffs and the World Series were:
- 1976 Cincinnati Reds
- 1989 Oakland Athletics
Since the two-round division playoffs began in 1995, no team has managed to sweep their league playoffs and the World Series.

Pre-divisional play (1903-68), there were ten 4-0 sweeps and two 4-0-1 near-sweeps in the World Series.
Since divisional play, only the 1976 Cincinnati Reds have gone undefeated to the championship, posting an aggregate 7-0 record (3-0 over Philadelphia in the NLCS, 4-0 over the Yankees in the WS).
Since 1995, when the postseason format expanded to three rounds, no team has gone undefeated. The best overall champion records have been 11-1, by the 1999 New York Yankees and the 2005 Chicago White Sox.

I know the White Sox lost just 1 game in 2005.
But, before 1980s (1976 i think) there was only a WS and no other playoff rounds, and there was only one round before the 1994

returned to sq. One : Why the will for playoffs in any respect ? In soccer there is very almost a valid reason in the back of a playoff equipment .as a results of jiffy table each and all the communities have not got an threat to play all of the different communities of their league so a playoff format is had to [with any luck ] insure that a real and valid champion emerges . as a results of 154 and then 162 pastime season each and all the MLB communities could have many many opportunities to play the different communities of their respective leagues and on the top of that very long season a worth champion in each and each league will upward push to the terrific suited and play the different worth champion of the different league for the international Championship. The winner will then be allowed to proclaim honorably that they are real champions-and not some mediocre group[ i.e. 2006 Cardinals ] that have been given fortunate in a quick sequence or 2 as a results of fact the could crown a real and truthful champion whose suitable to placed on the mantle of greatness isn't the real purpose of the MLB play-off equipment what then is.? advertising is while the powers that be in MLB over better the leagues in addition they over -bought the product . with a view to maintain the fannies coming via the turnstiles they out of necessity had to create a guy made international that allowed the followers of a few very mediocre communities like the aforementioned 2006 Cardinals to have faith that their group actualy could desire to win a WS . If the followers of those mediocre communities could desire to have faith that to be real then they might proceed to come back via the turntiles , watch television and purchase their communities products. are not getting me incorrect i'm not picking on the Cardinals i think of that the Cardinals are between the relatively large franchises in MLB historic previous and that they have got large followers who know what they're staring at however the 2006 long island Mets went ninety seven-sixty 5 -as did the Yankees -The Cardinals went 80 3-seventy 8 for a whopping destructive 14 pastime distinction. All seaon long the Mets confirmed real excellence and the playing cards confirmed not something and in my myopic previous college baseball purist view of the international i think of that there is something very incorrect while mediocrity gets inspired and real excellence does not get rewarded. as a results of fact if real exclence has no genuine international value why trouble to objective to realize it in any respect ? So let us know returned Why do you want the thoroughly un-needed MLB playoffs to proceed to strengthen. ?

Yeah, back in the day when no one could beat the yankees.
Probably their best year when they won like 120 games.
