Today I was trying to take pictures of Calvin Klein models with my cameraphone, but when I held my cell up to the P.C. screen, there were a bunch of black lines that showed up on my cell phone screen. It happens anytime a camera is filming a computer screen. Why does this occur?

It is due to the way CRT monitors and televisions work.

They work by shooting Cathode Rays at a phosphor screen in intervals, similar to a very fast strobe light. When you take a picture, it captures that interval in the image.

Our eyes are not fast enough to notice that interval, but the camera is.

Hi. Both the camera and the monitor are actually a set of lines that scan. (Look close.) The effect is called "verniering" I think. You can see the same effect by looking through twp pieces of window screen while moving them around slowly.
