There are no real consequences for the pupil. The teacher would lose his/her job as he/she would be in serious breach of contract and not be able to work in education ever again. It both parties were consenting and the pupil is over 16 there would be no custodial sentence for the teacher.

This is an issue fraught with problems. The teacher will quite likely have his career ruined, but as long as the student is over 16, then no offense has been committed so there is no fear of prosecution.
Having said that though, it is likely that people might well behave towards the teacher as if they had committed a crime. And s/he might have to prove that the relationship didn't start before the student was 16.
It really would be best to wait until you leave school. Or perhaps you can leave that school and go to another, perhaps a sixth form college?
Although it isn't illegal, it is unethical and you may find that part of the adults contract forbids such relationships. It is usually understood that this is not done.
It is likely that he/she would find himself well scrutinized too, just in case any offense had been committed.
I know it's hard, but do try to put the brakes on your relationship. At the very least, try and make it non sexual until you leave.

Ethically if the teacher is resonably close to the age of the 6th former ie in 20s or if immature and inexperienced even early 30s as in lives with paretns, hardly had any girlfriends... still thinks like a teenager, goes clubbing etc.
ie not someone 55

Not someone why considered themselves a virgin surgeon telling people lies and deliberately manipulating them.
ie an asshole.
Same as though they were the same age.
I and other have no problems if the realtioship would be as genuine as if the teacher in early 20s was dating somone their age or the student likewise.
The ethical rules should apply the same that a couple should like and care for each other.

However there should be no power relatioship ie one of you should move classes and he cant mark your work... likewise if you mess up the teacher still needs to discipline you so as far as possible the power element must be separated so no favouritisim, no corercion, no blackmail .
So its no different to if the two met in a nightclub or party and were both studying one in uni the other in school.

Thats the logic and reationality of it.
Only most people are not logical or rational.
People have these silly ideas of teenagers being children so they assume they wont have sex if not told about it as for some reason in parent fantasies..
They actually think they can stop nature, homrones and their kid growing up and no longer being dependnant on them.
So they see their fully hormonal physically mature (but still dependant on them ... parents dont get the idea that teenagers still need lots of parents help after they become sexaully active even when in uni and travelling etc )
daughter (not so much sons) as this fictional daddies little girl innocent figure so their brains can't handle the fact that there daughter is an equal in the relationship and was as seductive and deliberate in the forming of the relationship as the teacher if not more.
Much like the teacher/male student chris in the tv series SKINS.
Its much nicer for them to think oh my daughter(usually the case could be son) must be innocent and nieve and easily manipulated and the teacher must be some sort of devel currupting their not so little daughter.
Said daughter a year or two no more from going to a spanish holday to get as drunk and shag as many guys as she can or why do you think the first weekend in uni is termed fk a fresher week.

These people want to sack or arrest the teacher only the student would get awy with it even if she did all the seducing likewise if the student was a guy.
No ANY abusive realtionship be it with somone your age or older like getting beaten up, onot drugs, lied to, controlled etc is wrong. Likeiwise forced or conerced arranged marriages.
Likewise being blackmailed or forced or groped agianst your will inot anything sexaul.
But its not your job, their job, or psoition which should control this but who you are and just as somone is older does not mean they are any more controlling or abusive, or experienced or have any more clue what they are doing then you.
Many are shy, crap at chatting up, and basically still teenagers themselves.
others have been manipulators and scum since they were teenagers and unfortunetly the law does not tell the difference.
So your teachers career is ruined and may be put on the sex offenders register or in prision which is stupid considering both are over the legal age of concent.
All that should happen is the couple should have to register the relationship so they can be monitors for iregularities in say marking and discipline and separated as far as possible power wise ie marking.
Other then that should be able to be publically affectionate just like any other couple should be able to.
But as said thats how it should be not how it is.
So best wait till out of school... hurtful though it may be and make sure its genuine.

Didnt you ask this before?
the teacher would get prosecuted as it is a breach of trust, (even if the pupil is over 16 and its legal, the teacher is still in the wrong as they are in a position of trust and supposed to look after the welfare of the pupil.)and lose his/her job and probably not be able to get another one.
The pupil would make a fortune selling their story to the tabloids. or be hounded by the press until something more newsworthy came along.

It's breach of trust. At the very least, the teacher's career would be over. Depending on the circumstances (this isn't just a question of age) prosecution & possible jail could follow.

I think he/her gets the sack, but not prison if the pupil is more than 16. And they are in 6th form so that's OK

It is well out of order...A teacher runs the risk of public humilation and looseing the job permanently.
