On his own, not much! Giovanni Gabotto was an experienced navigator and may have worked for quite a number of different employers before approaching the court of Henry VII of England.
Some historians have speculated that Gabotto, Vespucci and Columbus knew one another personally, and that all had actually been to the New World prior to their famous voyages. This isn't entirely unlikely, since the Portugese had summer fishing camps on the shores of Newfoundland, possibly as early as 1460. Columbus first voyage to North America may have been as early as 1480.
History is generally recorded by influential people, and prior achievements by various navigators would not have interested the likes of Ysabella of Castille, or Henry Tudor except to make the ventures they financed more attractive risks.
The only pwer Cabot [Anglocised name] apparently had was his ability to convince investors to fund a voyage of discovery. Both Cabot and Columbus died believing they had sailed to China; only Amerigo Vespucci is likely to have ever seen the Pacific Ocean.

The power and influence that money has always had with the heads of government. You have to consider, that since the Revolutionary War and before, most government leaders, either, came out of wealthy families, or were supported in their campaigns by the wealthy.

There was an old cliche' saying of that period.

"The Lodges speak only to Cabots. The Cabots speak only to God."
