Lindsey, the extreme right is so hypocrictical, they've lost all sense of shame. They try to destroy anyone who doesn't agree with them. I'm half way surprised Bush hasn't rattled sabres towards Stockholm over this.

awarded by an unbiased, unpolitical, independent committee The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons. Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened. Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population. For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."

If Rush won it on the same pretenses as Gore, I'd give him down the road too. I've never heard or seen Rush but I could care less. Gore only won the prize because he bought into it. Everyone that wins it has paid a handsome price to get on the list to be nominated.

Rush Limbaugh fans would be eating it up, comparing him to Abe Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Ronald "I Don't Remember" Reagan.
However, Rush is a drug-addicted hate-monger, who has brain-washed enough people in the US with his rhetoric to help polarize this great country's people's thinkings.
Besides, if Rush got the Peace Prize, he would probably trade it for a bottle of Oxycontin.

I lean conservative, but I would have been appalled if Rush won the Peace Prize. Just because a person thinks conservative ideas are better for our country does not mean that same person automatically likes Rush Limbaugh. Personally, his ego prevents me from being able to listen to his ideas and I was disgusted by his comments on Michael J. Fox.
I can't fathom Gore as the recipient either, though. He seems like such a hypocrite.

I am not a fan of Al Gore but I congratulate him on his achievement. I do not completely agree with his documentary (but I agree with some of it) but I think it is time for all Americans, whether they like him or not (or agree with him or not) to congratulate him or just shut up.
A lot of times I see the Oscars and think "What??? Tootsie?!?!? You're f******* kidding me!"... And then I forget about it; and if I saw Dustin Hoffman (who is just plain and boring to me) I would be courteous. Why does everyone have to make EVERYTHING so personal. Gore hasn't done anything to warrant these attacks... He has not directed policy in this nation for some time.
BTW, I don't like Limbaugh either but if he won I'd congratulate him... or I'd just shut up and move on with my day.

If he was awarded the prize, I would fly to Sweden and punch the Nobel panel in the faces.

They would do as their shepherd commanded, and probably teach children the Simple Rush (aka. Simon) Says game because it is so similar to their lives.

I'm certain they would be bragging about it, but come on. Rush's nomination was only a publicity stunt.
